In 2007, the members of our
newly established organization were initially taking care of homeless pets at
their own homes. About 10-20 volunteers were taking care of several (sometimes
even more than a dozen) pets at a time. The majority of the pets were successfully
adopted, though in some cases our team members and the pets developed such a
close mutual bond that the orphans stayed with the volunteers for good. Currently,
we have limited possibilities of sheltering pets at home, though we always try
to find a way to help in any particularly difficult situation.
Our volunteers usually take care at home of:
- the pets that
need to be socialized (usually, stray kittens and puppies);
- pets with
newborn kittens/puppies;
- the pets that cannot be kept at the shelter due to the lack of
facilities (e.g., large dogs);
- the injured
and sick pets in need of isolation and intensive medical treatment.
